Overview

Diagnostic Technologist 

Location: Various Locations 

Schedule: Full Time, Part Time , Per Diem

Days/Hours: Monday - Friday; 8:30 AM - 5 PM  

Salary Range: $40.79 - $46.63 (pay will be determined based on experience, preferred qualifications, and education)

Responsibilities

SUMMARY: This position requires the technologist to be creative and responsible for providing excellence in clinical care as well as providing quality radiographs for the provider to make a diagnosis.  The technologist must work efficiently and professionally, as he/she is a representative of the Radiology department to provide services for other departments and referring physicians. The incumbent will need to work independently the majority of the time, with limited to no supervision.  He/she will report to an immediate supervisor (Assistant Director) in the section.

 

Job Duties & Essential Functions:

  • Perform Diagnostic Radiological (X-ray) procedures at a technical level, not requiring constant supervision of technical detail.
  • Perform a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgment with ingenuity and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for radiological diagnosis.
  • Assumes responsibility for designated areas or procedures, as required.
  • Transfers and positions, provides immobilization devices, as required, to produce diagnostic imaging.
  • Selects proper technical factors on an individual patient basis.
  • Selects and operates equipment as directed.
  • Provides protection in accordance with prescribed safety standards.
  • Processes films.
  • Performs QA to images and facilitate in the delivery of the images and exams to the file room and PAC’s system for dictation.
  • Assist physician in the administration of opaque media.
  • Practice sterile techniques and prevents cross contamination.
  • Responsible for delegating areas of authority in the performance of routine or special procedures.
  • May be responsible for specific areas of instruction in the school of technology and ancillary personnel.
  • In the absence of a supervisor or senior technologist, he/she may be designated as acting supervisor.
  • Assist in performing first aid.
  • Conduct periodic quality control tests.
  • Participate or conduct research in required specialty.
  • Maintain adequate records as directed.
  • Maintain order and cleanliness.
  • Secures and returns supplies.
  • Cooperates with all personnel in the proper conduct of the department.
  • Rotates within the department and other departments and by shift as required.
  • Maintains ethical relationships.
  • Adheres to hospital and departmental rules and regulations.
  • May be required to assist in the development of technical factors and film selection.
  • May assist in the use of a variety of equipment or procedures, not routinely taught.
  • Participate in in-service programs.
  • Participate in annual recertification training, compliance training, HIPPA training.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

Required Education & Qualifications:

  • The candidate must have a high school diploma and be a graduate of an accredited Radiology program.
  • Licensed by the state of New York in Diagnostic Radiology
  • ARRT Registration.
  • Basic Life Certification (BLS) from the American Heart Association or able to obtain within 3 months of employment.
  • One year experience in the field of radiology is preferred, however not required.
  • Must have excellent communications skills.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate with patients, staff and medical providers. The employee must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. This position is active and requires the employee to constantly move about in the office to assist patients, staff and medical providers. Any additional physical demands will be outlined and provided by management.
